Time to start off this year’s album project, here is the first song of VG Arch Rivals Vol. 4: Meta Knight vs Galacta Knight!
Hopefully this doesn’t need much introduction. They are both from the Kirby universe, look somewhat similar, their battle theme is somewhat similar and their fighting style is somewhat similar too. They met each other when Meta Knight was like “I want to fight the most powerful warrior in the universe!”. And that was Galacta Knight until the moment Meta Knight beat him.
Actually both of their themes already appeared together in the album version of Meta Battle (Sounds Alike Vol. 1), but the main focus in this song is quite different. Aside from both characters’ battle themes I also included some Halberd themes, namely Revenge of Meta Knight and Taking Over the Halberd. So let’s hear how it sounds:
Didn’t know Revenge of Meta Knight could sound so catchy…I hope that was a good way to start off the new Arch Rivals. Now, the next rivals should arrive in 2 weeks as usual. There are still some very important rivals to cover!
So I’ve been trying to work on another True Disciple song, switching up some of the themes originally included, BUT it didn’t quite work out in the end. Seeing as the expectations for such songs are also really high, I don’t want to risk giving you anything mediocre.
Instead, I’ll announce the results of the votingtoday. In case you forgot, we had a voting going on on YouTube which project I should do this year, either the next installment of VG Arch Rivals or another Sounds Alike. The results are pretty clear, as you can see:
Now that we have the results, why wait? If all goes according to plan, we’ll start with the first song of VG Arch Rivals Vol. 4 next Sunday. I hope to see you then!
Another year is coming to its end and you know what that means: time for this year’s Best of album.
As usual it features all songs of 2017 which aren’t already on another album (like the Sounds Alike songs). The songs have been re-rendered for maximum quality and are available on bandcamp in different formats.
Actually a lot of the songs have been slightly altered for the album version, I’ll try to remember what I changed:
The Snippet Mutants/Greenhorn Funk/Divine Rhythm: Changed mastering completely to the one used in the latest songs. I think it sounds cleaner that way.
Show Me Ya Moves/Ndoplasma/Formidable Battleground: Changed mastering completely to the one used in the latest songs. Also changed the song structures a bit since it was no longer necessary that these songs are loop-able.
Thousand Eyes Disciple: Added some chords to the Zero Two part so it sounds more powerful.
Sick Beats: Changed the transition after the Super Mario part. Should sound a little smoother now.
A Hunter’s Journey: Added some oomph to the Lower Norfair part. Does it sound better now? I hope so.
Super Mario Super Fun: Changed the song structure so the transitions would be a bit smoother. Also changed the mixing for Jump Up, Super Star and added some effects. That part specifically should sound much better now.
Night of the Spider: Slight changes in transitions and some sounds and the ending. Now it sounds pretty nice >:]
Thu’um Like Thunder: Removed some of the shouts.
Industrial Rhythm: Added even more oomph to it.
Silver Spell: Adjusted the Silver Mountain part a bit.
Quite a lot right? Sounds like downloading the album will be worth it! Here’s where you can get the album, it will be available for free for a limited amount of time (just type 0,00 when asked for the price):
And of course, here’s the video. I tried to showcase the changes specifically, if you go to 14:20 you’ll instantly notice that for example:
And that’s it for 2017. I wish you all a Happy New Year, let’s hope for a nice 2018! >:]
You’ve been really generous recently, throwing money at me even though you do not need to! So here’s a big
Thanks to your efforts, I received a bunch of free download credits on bandcamp, so I decided to make ALL ALBUMS available for FREE until we run out of download credits.
So if there’s something you wanted to get, but hesitated until now, head to the album projects page or directly to bandcamp and grab what you can get – as long as it’s hot! Just remember to type in 0 when you’re asked for the amount you want to give! Maybe check out some of the older stuff too – it may be worth a listen.
Everything went as planned, so today I’m able to present: Sounds Alike Vol. 1!
And this one’s really worth it. Aside from the best quality thing I keep pointing out (which does in fact make little difference to me personally), all of the song have been at least slightly altered, partially thanks to your comments. Let’s look at it in detail:
Cheetah’d – one part has been changed to feature a small bit of Reverse? from No Game No Life (which is a reference to the Cornered Theme anyway)
Lunatic Stage 2 ~ Invisible Zero Virus – the ending part has been adjusted to feature Reisen’s Theme once more
Bad Boss Plateau – changed the part after the pitch change to sound more interesting and added one more line from the DK Rap
Natural Beat Robot – adjusted the instrumentation of the Devil Summoner Boss Theme in the second half of the song
Meta Battle – replaced the Ridley bridges in the second half of the song (after Omega Ridley and the tempo change) with references to the Galacta Knight Battle Theme
Bad Boss Plateau [instrumental] – see Bad Boss Plateau minus the DK Rap
As always, there’s a limited number of free downloads for it. Hard to say how long those will last.
So I’ve been thinking what’s next. I’ve actually been playing around with Vocaloid (English Miku and Gumi, specifically) quite a bit, but I’m not quite there to release a song featuring those anytime soon, so – no need to be upset just yet~
Aside from that, I still have a lot of stuff on my to do list (which is getting longer instead of shorter, oddly enough). I’m kind of in a Metroid mood and wanted to remake my Metroid Medley Soulless Enemies anyway, so I’ll probably settle with that. Unless I come up with something else, you never know!
Ready for the finale? Prepare yourself for the 5th and final song of Sounds Alike Vol.1:
Metroid Gaiden – Meta Battle
Most impressive logo yet, right? Anyway, I’ve been waiting for this mix. Meta Knight meets Ridley – with a certain ninja joining in as well. To be exact, we have Ridley’s Theme, Meta Knight Battle Theme, Crash (Ninja Gaiden Sigma) and Omega Ridley (Metroid Prime 3: Corruption).
You’d expect an epic mix and that’s just what you get. After the Omega Ridley part at about halfway through the mix it picks up the pace and gets even faster. What an intense battle that must be…
And. That’s. It! Certainly a worthy finale for Vol.1 of this little series, right? In any case, I’m off to prepare the album now. If everything goes as planned, the album will release next Sunday. And then I’ll have to think about what comes next! See you then~
Are you ready for the fourth entry of Sounds Alike? No? Yes? It doesn’t matter, here we go:Shin Megami Tensei: Mega Man Moonwalker – Natural Beat Robot
That logo turned out to be such a mess. But there’s a good reason for that: we’ve got 4 different themes this time! Most of them have at least one very similar sounding part. We’ve got the Boss Theme from Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner, Natural Killer Cyborg from Mother 3, Wily Stage 1 from Mega Man 2 and Michael Jackson’s Beat It.
Long-time fans probably remember Electrocuted, which already included 2 of those themes. This is certainly a step up though. I’m especially happy that I was able to include the Devil Summoner Boss Theme there. I like the tune, so I tried to start sequencing it to make a remix of it. Sadly, that didn’t really go so well…but that doesn’t matter now, since I was able to include my favorite part in a song after all!
