Today on OST focus we have a look at Nonexistence Battle 2, another tune from Super Mario: Vanishing Existence, the animated series created by VanishingSVST. Much like a regular Final Fantasy boss theme, the main battle theme versus Nonexistence has the number 2.
The song’s first appearance was in the second episode of Super Mario: Vanishing Existence, and what an episode it was! It featured the great battle of Gensokyo vs Nonexistence, who had regained a good amount of his power, but was still vulnerable to the girls’ combined forces. As usual the video features some nice artwork, as well as the decisive scene in this battle.
Nonexistence Battle 2 is not as old as the first one, which you should instantly notice. It’s faster, more serious and more powerful. It even has an ending! If you like it, there’s quite a bit more like that on the OST page!
Next time on OST focus: Shadow Dial, the theme of Shadow Sakuya! After that we might switch to another series, to keep everything fresh. Until next Sunday I want to finish the Castlevania/Touhou crossover mix, but I’m uncertain if I can. The problem is, I’m writing my master thesis and have to hurry up with finishing it, so that’s my top priority at the moment. I’m REALLY sorry if I can’t finish this song in-time!
Not quite what I announced last week, but…here’s a little something I felt like doing. Maybe some of you remember my crossover song Super Touhoid – Lower Gensokyo? If not, here it is:
So, basically, I wanted to give it a little upgrade. There are still some parts that I might change until the final release, but this should give you a very good idea how Touhoid Prime – Former Hell of Blazing Fires sounds. It doesn’t sound as menacing as Lower Gensokyo, especially the Nuclear Fusion parts sound more like “welcome home”. Naturally, since the former hell of blazing fires IS pretty much Okuu’s place anyway. But it has changed…
This song wasn’t planned for now, after all both songs (Lower Norfair and Nuclear Fusion) were featured in last week’s upload for the fire element. What I actually had in mind since then was actually quite different. I wanted to make a remix of Torri’s theme (Monochromatic Color) from the RPG Conception II. The song has a nice beat to it, but it can’t really be compared to other songs I usually do. Why do I want to make a remix then? Let’s say personal reasons, k? Gotta make it…more interesting~
As of now, I’m not done sequencing the song, but close. Since there isn’t much, I’ll have to arrange it quite a bit and maybe throw in some other stuff as usual. I’ll likely increase the tempo, 124bpm is a bit slow for my standards (the Touhoid Prime song above has 190bpm…). I’m curious how this will turn out in the end! While the game just sounds wrong most of the time (it’s intentionally very suggestive), it has an amazing soundtrack, especially some great battle themes, maybe I’ll give them a shot one day too!
Have a Disciple song work in progress! With a really long name! “Elemental Disciples vs the 4 Elemental Fiends” is a mix of some elements from the Disciple songs Earth, Water, Wind and Fire (with a little extra in fire) and Dreadful Battle, the battle theme of the 4 Lords of the Elements (or Fiends of the Elements) from Final Fantasy IV and of course Fighting of the Spirit (Tales of Phantasia/Symphonia). Scarmiglione vs Goron Link (Earth), Cagnazzo vs Frog (Water), Barbarizia vs Tornado Man (Wind) and Rubicante vs Samus and Okuu (Fire)!
Why work in progress? There’s still some things I want to try, making everything sound clearer and louder at the same time. Mixing stuff basically, something I’m still not good at…I’ll try, but I have no idea if I can pull that off, so here you go, listen to it:
Elemental Disciples vs the 4 Elemental Fiends
Let me summarize the current standing of the Touhou voting for you:
Bad Apple and Suwa Foughten Field both have 11 votes and are first place, 3rd is Eternal Shrine Maiden with 8 votes. Strawberry Crisis and The Shining Needle Castle Sinking in the Air are both in a good position with 6 votes as well. But there are still not enough votes by FAR to finish that voting.
The French would probably say “rien ne va plus”. And although the context is usually quite a different one, I’d say this pretty much explains things.
There are quite a few songs in progress, but nothing worth mentioning. I’m still looking for that right sound, trying lots of mixing stuff and wondering why I’m not even half as creative as other musicians. Pah. “Creative crisis” is the only thing that comes to mind right now. I wonder when (and if) I can ever make something good again…
I see this as a birthday present from Nintendo. For me, Ike was always a very inspiring character and his Radiant Dawn outfit makes him look even more badass than ever before. To celebrate this, here’s a little fun mix including quite a few FE tunes which will show who’s the better FE Smash Bro!
I still wonder if Chrom will make it into Smash Bros. though. I was sure they would include him or Lucina. I wonder if that is the case?
As promised: part 2 of the voting for the next song! Crest of Infinity will be next, but which should I finish afterwards?
Crest of Infinity might have won the first part of the voting, but the votes were really balanced, so I’m still excited what you will choose after that song! Happy voting!
Thevoting ends on Sunday, 27th of April.
You might remember them anyway, but here are the remaining 2 contestants:
– Alimbic Insanity
A Metroid Prime: Hunters remix, previously of Gorea Phase 2 is now more a Hunters medley, which is some sort of Gorea Phase 1. I tried to make the Hunter themes fit together so they can ALL PLAY TOGETHER AT ONCE. Maybe I’ll also add another Metroid reference…

– Brinstar Alchemy
A remix of Super Metroid’sBrinstar Overgrown with Vegetation Area. I planned to make it sound more House-inspired than usual, but I’m unsure if I can pull that off adequately. I’m trying some new mixing techniques with this one, so it’s a bit experimental, but might throw me in the right direction.

I guess you know the procedure by now, so get your digital pencils out and vote below! The results will be revealed on Monday, 28th of April. Should leave me enough time to finish that other song.
Today we’ll do a special thing: a poll! Because simply showing previews of songs isn’t good enough, I’ll let you choose which of these 3 you’d like to see finished next! Seeing as there isn’t much traffic at the moment, I’ll play safe and make an announcement video on YouTube to be sure enough people vote (voting does not require a registration or anything! in fact everything should work with a Google account by now).
The first part of the voting ends on Tuesday already, because I’ll need to know which of the songs I should finish until next Monday (it’s Easter holiday and I won’t be able to upload before Monday). After that we’ll have another poll where you can vote for the next song of the remaining two entries.
Before you vote below, here are the contestants:
– Alimbic Insanity
This is already my personal favorite for the voting. You might remember this song from last year’s voting. It got third place along with the other Metroid song and I never really finished it. Now seems to be the right time to have another look at Alimbic Insanity, a Metroid Prime: Hunters remix, although the general idea (a remix of Gorea Phase 2) has already been abandoned. While the beginning is still the same, the song is now more a Hunters medley, which is some sort of Gorea Phase 1. I tried to make the Hunter themes fit together so they can ALL PLAY TOGETHER AT ONCE. You already get a small glimpse at that. Maybe I’ll also add another Metroid reference…

– Brinstar Alchemy
Formerly known as “Plants and Drums”, Brinstar Alchemy was the other Metroid song that lost last year’s voting. It’s a remix of Super Metroid’sBrinstar Overgrown with Vegetation Area. I planned to make it sound more House-inspired than usual, but I’m unsure if I can pull that off adequately. I’m trying some new mixing techniques with this one, so it’s a bit experimental, but might throw me in the right direction.

– Crest of Infinity
Now this is not a Metroid song and it’s actually new. If you’ve heard of or were lucky enough to play Demon’s Crest for the SNES, you’ll probably be pumped to see a song of this gem here. And if you haven’t heard of it, you might know the game’s protagonist Firebrand from Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. Now here’s a little story: I recently looked for a game I played back in the days (I only remembered it included a Gargoyle and was for the SNES), so I found this gem and played it. I’m unsure if it even was the game I was looking for, but I’m glad I played it anyway. It’s not that long, but it’s simply fantastic, challenging and leaves you a lot of freedom. Most of the soundtrack includes epic organs, but the song that really hit me in the face was the Credits theme Memorial of the Fallen Ones (which is very similar to Beyond the Colosseum, probably the most popular song of the game), not only because it felt very nostalgic, showing all the places you’ve been to and the bosses you fought. I thought I could make a great, a little bit more upbeat mix of it. Now take the “little bit” x10 and you get Crest of Infinity. More or less. Also Zero 2. Have a listen:

So much text for such a little poll…now that you managed to go through this wall of text to know the contestants, get your digital pencils out and vote below! The results will be revealed on Wednesday along with the second poll for the remaining two entries. I wonder what you’ll choose?
