Crash vs Cortex

If you expected Crash to make an appearance in VG Arch Rivals Vol. 4, then I congratulate you: here’s the second entry of this year’s album project, Crash vs Cortex!

In all honesty, I never played any of the classic Crash games – but it’s nice to see that the series is getting a revival now. All I know is that Crash and Cortex are basically the definition of arch rivals – and this song was lots of fun to make. That series has a lot of catchy tunes.

It starts off with what I came to call the “Main Theme” (since it appears in more than one game), I heard it in Crash Bandicoot: Warped and Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex, also sometimes called the Opening or Intro Theme. Not entirely sure. After that is the Main/Title Theme of Crash Bandicoot also sometimes called N. Sanity Beach (I really hope I got those names right, this is confusing me). The song of course also includes Dr. Neo Cortex, I chose his theme from Warped because that’s the definitive Cortex Theme in my book. Aside from that, the song features Rockslide Rumble and Evil Twins from Crash Twinsanity – the game with the acapella soundtrack where Crash and Cortex actually had to work together.

Now that you know where I’m coming from, let’s listen to the song:

You know, I had a funny idea for next Sunday, but I’m unsure if I can make it, since that’s also the Easter weekend. In case I’m unable to prepare it in time I’ll see you in two weeks.

Meta Knight vs Galacta Knight

Time to start off this year’s album project, here is the first song of VG Arch Rivals Vol. 4: Meta Knight vs Galacta Knight!

Hopefully this doesn’t need much introduction. They are both from the Kirby universe, look somewhat similar, their battle theme is somewhat similar and their fighting style is somewhat similar too. They met each other when Meta Knight was like “I want to fight the most powerful warrior in the universe!”. And that was Galacta Knight until the moment Meta Knight beat him.

Actually both of their themes already appeared together in the album version of Meta Battle (Sounds Alike Vol. 1), but the main focus in this song is quite different. Aside from both characters’ battle themes I also included some Halberd themes, namely Revenge of Meta Knight and Taking Over the Halberd. So let’s hear how it sounds:

It’s not complete without a video:

Didn’t know Revenge of Meta Knight could sound so catchy…I hope that was a good way to start off the new Arch Rivals. Now, the next rivals should arrive in 2 weeks as usual. There are still some very important rivals to cover!

VG Arch Rivals Vol. 4 Announcement

So I’ve been trying to work on another True Disciple song, switching up some of the themes originally included, BUT it didn’t quite work out in the end. Seeing as the expectations for such songs are also really high, I don’t want to risk giving you anything mediocre.

Instead, I’ll announce the results of the voting today. In case you forgot, we had a voting going on on YouTube which project I should do this year, either the next installment of VG Arch Rivals or another Sounds Alike. The results are pretty clear, as you can see:

Now that we have the results, why wait? If all goes according to plan, we’ll start with the first song of VG Arch Rivals Vol. 4 next Sunday. I hope to see you then!
