Best of 2019

As announced last time, the Best of album has been released a little later this time – but the wait is over, it’s finally here!

2019 was a somewhat rocky year, with a few unplanned delays and a month-long hiatus. There were a few surprises, songs that worked out quite well and songs that had to be salvaged for a release. To sum it up, I think it was a “meh” year in terms of music.

Despite all that, I still think a lot of the 2019 tunes actually turned out pretty cool. My personal favorites this year are hard to pick, but I’d say Night of the Vampire, Coconut Tower and especially Wolfen Mercenaries 2019 get my vote.

As usual the album features all songs of 2019 which aren’t already on another album (like the Clad in Shadow songs). The songs have been re-rendered for maximum quality and are available on bandcamp in different formats.

As usual, some of the songs got a little makeover for the Best of release – I went all out this time and tried to improve a lot of songs. Some songs got a new intro, like Time to Battle 2 and Night of the Vampire (actually got the Entrance Theme from Super Castlevania IV as an intro) among other changes, Dancing Through Grunty’s Lair 2019 got Treasure Trove Cove, etc. Wolfen Mercenaries 2019 is a bit of a special case, as this album-exclusive version is basically the Surprise Edit with Corneria – so a fusion of both versions we had this year.

Of course these improvements are somewhat subjective – so you might not agree that the album version is better. But we can agree that it’s different at least~

Here’s where you can get the album, it will be available for free for a limited amount of time (just type 0,00 when asked for the price):

I just received 1,000 download credits for free downloads because you guys were very supportive and bought a bunch of my albums, so this should last a while! Finally, here’s the video. I tried to showcase the changes specifically as usual:

And that was 2019! As for 2020: I think we’ll start off the years with a nice little remake of one of my most popular songs before we dive right into this year’s big project. I got something very big and special planned, I sure hope I’ll be able to pull it off! After all it’s our 10th anniversary ; )

Clad In Shadow – Shadow Ridley

After a comment I got on my last video, I decided to meditate and think again about what this year’s project should be. I came to the conclusion that Clad in Shadow has been abandoned for far too long and needs to come back. So this marks the birth of Clad in Shadow Vol.2! Oh wait, does that sound familiar? Yeah, the first entry of Vol. 2 already exists….well, let’s call it a rebirth then, shall we!

In this project, tunes get a ‘Shadow‘ version by mixing them with a Persona Battle Theme. They will usually have a darker feeling to them as well. Exceptions prove the rule though.

Well, at least that’s how it used to be. However, I have expanded the idea to allow myself to include not only Persona Battle Themes, but any battle tune from the Shin Megami Tensei series – as long as it works for its intended purpose, of course! That should be enough variation to keep things interesting and work for a variety of character themes.

So the second entry of Vol.2 is Shadow Ridley, the shadow version of, well, Ridley’s Theme from the Metroid series. It comes with Fierce Battle from SMT: Nocturne and the Boss Battle theme of Shin Megami Tensei II. Since his tune is already kinda “dark”, I decided to go into a different direction and aim for more of a Shadow Meta Ridley as you can see in the video.

Here’s the video:

The next song should be ready in two weeks, that should still leave me enough room afterwards to easily make this year’s Halloween Mix as well.

Clad In Shadow – Shadow Slick

As announced last week, this day marks the birth of Clad in Shadow Vol.2! A week late, but I hope it was worth the wait. Cue copy’n’paste explanation:

In this project, tunes get a ‘Shadow‘ version by mixing them with a Persona Battle Theme. They will usually have a darker feeling to them as well. Exceptions prove the rule though.

Vol.2 starts with Shadow Slick, the shadow version of Doopliss’ Theme from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. It was one of the first of the shadow songs I originally made for the Super Mario: Vanishing Existence series and you can still make out some parts the original had – although not many. This version features the Battle theme of Persona 2: Innocent Sin as well as the Battle and Boss themes of Persona 2: Eternal Punishment. Also some lightning and spooky sound effects – looks like Halloween is early this year~

Here’s what I settled with for the presentation of the Clad in Shadow videos for now:

I’ll try to make up for the delay by preparing a new song for next Sunday. Shouldn’t be too much of a problem, since I have the next week off. Can’t say what it will be though!
