False Disciple of Darkness

I kinda feel like the title already gave it away, but oh well! The sixth entry of NEO Lord of the Elements is NOT True Disciple of Darkness – it’s a faker!

Now you may be wondering: why? Let me explain:

I was about to save the actual True Disciple of Darkness, when Windows notified me that such a file already exists. I was so confused. So I checked, and indeed:

Turns out I already tried to make a true version of Darkness years ago. The reason I never finished it, was that it didn’t sound right – it didn’t sound dark, it sounded…false.

But there was also a lot of effort put in it, some really cool parts – and I’m not one to just let that go to waste. So I saw this as the perfect opportunity to finalize it and add the song to NEO Lord of the Elements. This also gives me another week to finish the actual song. 😉

So without further ado, here’s False Disciple of Darkness:

Regarding Mail Server

So I just noticed that ever since my provider changed the mailing software back in May, e-mails weren’t sent correctly anymore. I had my suspicions, but thought there was nothing I needed to do or could do about it. Turns out there was something I should have done, and now the e-mail service finally works again! Should have known that I would need to change some settings to keep things working…

But this means that if you used the contact form the last few months, chances are I didn’t get your message at all! So if you were disappointed that you didn’t get a reply: that is likely the reason. I’m so sorry for the inconvenience!

But the contact form should work again, so if you still got that unsent message lying around somewhere, now’s probably the best time to send it! 😉

Compact Disciple of the Earth

So, I just couldn’t move on from Earth just yet. I originally hadn’t planned for it to become as long as it did, and I felt like the flow of the song suffered a bit from the decision to keep everything that was originally in Disciple of the Earth.

So I came up with a more “compact”, shorter version of True Disciple of the Earth, which leaves out some parts and shortens some to improve the overall flow of the song. I call the result Compact Disciple of the Earth, which is now the fifth song of NEO Lord of the Elements.

Additionally, this version also features some other changes that I consider improvements which will carry over to the album version of True Disciple of the Earth.

It may be shorter, but it’s also pretty compact, so there’s still a lot of themes packed into it:

  • Tunnel Rhino Stage
  • The Totem God
  • Concrete Jungle
  • Stone Tower Temple
  • Twisted Humiliskate (Rockslide Rumble)
  • Strike the Earth! (Plains of Passage)
  • Cocoa Cave
  • Rock Star

This version removed Native Faith and Cave Story’s Last Boss, otherwise the song list is unchanged. Native Faith seemed to take away too much from the rest of the song despite the cool transition back to Stone Tower Temple, so I decided to remove it for this version. Last Boss was sacrificed for the greater good as well.

And surprise, there’s a video for this version as well – who’d have thought? 😉

Alright, I’m satisfied now. Next up is definitely Darkness. Yeah!
