Samurai Robot

I’m back with another remake, but the big news is something else this time, so let’s cut to the chase:

Samurai Robot is the 2021 remake of the original Samurai Robot (2011) with upgraded sound, drums, instruments, etc. It still features Yamato Man Stage from Mega Man 6 and The Steel Samurai from Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. I lost some sounds when opening the old project, like the original robot voice saying “Samurai Robot”, so I had to replace those. The robot voice specifically I replaced by my own voice. Let’s hear it:

Now the bigger news is the video. I’ve been messing around with Adobe After Effects to create something that’s hopefully more interesting to watch and makes the song shine a bit more. It’s more work and takes considerably longer to render and upload, but I think it’s worth it.

The story behind that is actually rather amusing. Someone notified me that there’s a channel which uploaded one of my songs. Now I don’t really care much about that, although does bother me a bit if those people claim that they made the song. Still, especially with very small channels, it’s rarely worth the hassle, so I decided to not bother complaining about it.

But here’s the thing: I checked the video out and…it was so flashy, with sound waves and everything moving to the beat, that it made me think: Wouldn’t it be cool if my videos also looked like that? So I’ve been messing around – and although I couldn’t get exactly the same effects going, I feel it’s quite an upgrade. I would have liked to add even more, but what I did is already pushing my PC to its limit, so that’ll have to do for now – maybe I’ll try adding some more FX to future videos, but we gotta start somewhere, right? 😉

While I was at it, I also included an intro for the video, although it’s purely visual and doesn’t delay the song or anything. It’s actually mostly a template I got from motionarray.com – pretty amazing stuff.

OK that’s quite enough blabbering, let’s see what I got:

So how’s that? I hope you like it – I do intend to make this the basic template for future uploads. Not sure how I’ll handle medleys in the future, as showing which theme is currently playing is rather important to me, but playing around with Text feels a bit jarring in After Effects, so I don’t know how that will work yet.

Either way, since the whole song sounds about like some 80s/90s cartoon intro, I do want to upload a shorter “Cartoon Intro” version specifically. I still gotta adjust it a bit, but that should be the next upload. I feel it’s worth its own video, no? Would be funny to have its own animation for that, much like a good old cartoon intro. Anyone with the skill to do so is free to make their own video about it – just be sure to let me know, I totally wanna see that 😉

Super Mario Super Star

Happy New Year!

First week of January I said, but that was pretty fast right? I thought that everyone would be busy wrapping things up at the end of the year, so I decided to publish the new song on the first of January instead. So here we are!

Let’s start 2021 with a classic Super Mario All-Stars medley. Since that is a compilation of games, it features tunes from Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3 and even an exclusive song that’s only found in this game compilation. Super Mario’s 35th anniversary ends in March, so this still counts as a contribution, right!?

The video was once again a premiere, thanks to everyone who tuned in!

Super Mario All-Stars was actually my first video game ever, so it’s quite special to me. So I decided to ignore the 3D games and focus on the classics this time.

And that’s that. Now how do we proceed? Don’t expect a weekly upload schedule, but I definitely want to make more tunes than last year – that shouldn’t be too difficult…

Here’s to a better 2021!

Homekoming

Oh hi there – long time no see! Wait, that’s my fault? Huh…oh would you look at the date, I think it’s time for this year’s X-Mas Mix! Brace yourself for Homekoming!

The Snowmads meet K. Rool and the crew in this mix that doesn’t care that it’s an X-Mas Mix – no chilling allowed, let’s get LOUD! To name the songs that you can expect: we got Homecoming Hijinx (Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze), K. Rool Returns (title theme from Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest) and a very short bit from the Island Map theme, Welcome to Crocodile Isle.

Without further ado, let’s hear it:

The video was actually a Premiere this time, thank you to all of you who watched it with me. It was kind of a spontaneous idea, so sorry for the short notice – but I feel like we should do this more often, it sure was fun!

I do love the DK stuff, and I don’t think I can pull off another final mix in time this year. So let this be the final bang of 2020, I think it’s worthy of that title.

Now I feel like doing some rambling, so if ya wanna here it, keep reading – otherwise you can skip right to the end 😉

It sure was an odd year, this one – didn’t get much done of the things that I wanted to get done. Oof. That actually has nothing to do with the whole virus situation, in case you were wondering. Just kind of felt like taking a step back and it was harder to get back to it than I expected.

Sticking to a schedule is hard, especially if you’re doing creative stuff. But if you just let it slide every time you’ll get nothing done. At least for me that’s how it is. That’s why we got the April Fools’ mix, Halloween Mix and X-Mas Mix, but barely anything else this time…that’s not even close enough for a Best Of album this year!

I do have some half-finished mixes in the back and some tunes that I could turn into a full mix – and some remakes I really want to do. But the Best Of mixes are still a thing as well, can’t just let that single one stand there like that. You see, there’s enough stuff to keep going, might even upload something again soon. Maybe if I promise I’ll actually do it? Ok, First week of January it is then. Thanks for reading through my rambling, now let’s wrap this up.

I wish all of you a Merry Christmas, and if you don’t hear from me in a month: send Link! 😉
